kmsmith5 ha scritto: Great job Timdunkit. Do you think that if Bosh is traded this off-season it would have to be to a team that is sure he will re-sign? Otherwise his full value will be in a sign and trade after his contact is up(he gets a longer/bigger contract and the team he goes to gets a guarantee). With that in mind I narrowed my focus to the Knicks and came up with this in return for Bosh this off-season:
David Lee (re-signed for about $9.3mil./yr.)
Wilson Chandler ($1.25mil. in 09-10)
2009 1st rd pick (Has to be traded after the pick is made - $2mil. in 09-10)
NY does it in a heartbeat because they can't afford to keep Lee and Robinson and still have a chance at LeBron. Bosh can help lure LeBron to NY in 2010 and they don't have to take back any bad contracts that would ruin that.
Toronto does it because it gets three good young players and cuts the most salary possible. Bosh's contract is $15,779,912 in 09-10. In order to trade him by himself we would have to take back at least $12,523,930. The above trade has us taking back exactly that much and not a penny more because we have some control over Lee's contract. Plus, I believe we would also receive a trade exception.
Which brings me to my next idea for this team in the off-season. The Marion decision. It has been discussed earlier in this thread, and the general consensus among those who understand the CBA rules is that it makes much more sense to sign Marion and then have the ability to use Bird rights and the MLE rather than let him walk and have cap room for a free agent but then be stuck with minimum salaries to fill out the roster.
I would trade Marion for Andrei Kirilenko. This would only work if we offered Marion $13,061,600 for one year. The reason Marion agrees to only one year is that he would not be able to get close to that much in free agency. Utah would agree because it saves them $6,780,800 next season if they are over the luxury tax. They need to clear some money to sign Millsap and maybe Boozer. This move allows them to do that and not lose much talent in the process. I do have a question however, does anyone know if the hypothetical trade exception from the hypothetical Bosh trade above could be used to save Utah more and entice them to make the trade if they decline initially?
Example: Marion signed for 10mil.+3mil. exception for Kirilenko?
Those two moves leave the Raptors looking like this for next year:
Calderon/Ukic/Banks
(Warren or DeRozan)/Kapono
Kirilenko/Chandler
Bargnani/(Blair, Clark, Johnson, Aldrich or Aminu)/Humphries
Lee/Jawai/O'Bryant
That roster costs only about $63million, leaving room under the luxury tax for the MLE and/or Bird rights to Parker and Graham. After the 10-11 season Kirilenko, Banks, Kapono, and Humphries all expire leaving lots of options.
Would you guys offer these deals? and do you think they would be accepted? I really tried to think of the benefit to the Knicks and Jazz on the court and financially, and I think they would or at least should consider them.
