same best six players (Carmelo, Amar’e, Tyson, JR, Felton, Shumpert in whatever order you want)
First up …. “same best six players” is where your argument goes off track. That’s without discussing Woody, who is definitely part of the problem.
Carmelo – Knicks best player, but he has another level (IMO … and Phil’s too). Without Veterans around (especially Kidd), Anthony’s talents have mostly gone to waste
Stat – His scoring of late has been excellent, but his defense still sucks big time. Too many minutes of late though. Should play-offs come, it could all come crashing down. His body has only so much wear & tear it can handle in a season. And Amar’e is best off the Bench.
Tyson – Injuries, age, indifference. He’s not the same guy this year. Not bad, Not good. Just okay
JR – .397 average & .624 from the Free throw line. Add poor defense – that Chandler hasn’t been as good in covering up (this year). His hijinks during a losing stretch would normally bench a guy, but this is Smith. Fans somehow love this guy. Hot & mostly cold. In short, bad attitude (see: Chris Smith), bad shooting, bad defense. Add signing contract prior to injury repairs – who allows this to happen?? Why is JR playing 32.3 minutes a game? And why is he closing (with a poor FT average & lousy defense). This is on Woody.
Raymond Felton – 6 words is all that is needed …. “worse Starting Point Guard in NBA”. That moniker has only increased in verocity this season.
Shumpert – Injuries & being treated like a dog have hurt him. Plus the general malaise on this team has probably impacted him as well. Did I mention he was treated like a dog by Woody?
Also …. New players haven’t gelled with the team either. Udrih didn’t pan out (Woody’s fault? or Benny’s).
As for Bargnani …. since the start of 2014 (when Knicks started their turn-around) … Knicks are 14-14 without Andrea. That’s a great stat that guys like Herring will push out on Twitter. What he omits is that these games (28 in total), featured 18 sub-par matches. Against real competition (.500+ teams) in 2014, Knicks went 4-4 (with Bargnani), and 1-8 without Bargnani. Never see this stat on Herring’s twitter feed.
Never-the-less, this team was flawed from the beginning. And Coach Woody didn’t help matters.
