HOUSTON - Rookie Danilo Gallinari practiced for the first time since early November today at Houston's Toyota Center, but still could be at least two weeks before he plays. Gallinari played the season's first two games - a total of 11 minutes before having to shut it down again because of a disc relapse.

The Knicks New York Knicks won't rush him like they did last time for the season opener after just a few practices. Gallinari, who missed all the preseason games, participated in a lengthy 4-on-4 scrimmage, showed plenty of stamina but missed a lot of his long-range bombs.

The Knicks were ecstatic to see Gallinari back on the floor in contact situations. This is what amount to great news now as the Knicks are well on pace to another 50-loss season. It's the last hope of the season - that Gallinari is the piece that makes the offense hum again, as Nate Robinson Nate Robinson and Al Harrington experience shooting problems.

But D'Antoni cautioned that Gallinari's first few games might not be pretty. "Everyone's in midseason form and you're in October form,'' D'Antoni said. "He may have setbacks, might not look good.

"The biggest thing he can do is make shots and be able to spread the floor,'' D'Antoni added. "He doesn't have to create a lot. He just needs to catch and shoot, play a little defense then he can add to his game.''

The returns of Curry and Gallinari are what the Knicks brass is most focused on rather than adding to the roster once they get a disabled player exception. The growth of Gallinari, in truth, is vital as the No. 6 pick in the draft. If he comes back and does well, the season could be viewed as not a total waste if they fall out of the playoff race.

Curry, meanwhile, may not play tomorrow night vs. Yao Ming and the Rockets. Curry was so rusty, the Knicks' lead shrunk from 11 to 2 in his 2:38 stint at the end of the first quarter. D'Antoni says he will see how the Rockets' game goes before guaranteeing Curry will play, feeling he needs more practices..

se riuscisse a rientrare prima della fine dell'anno sarebbe ottimo, con la parte finale di stagione in cui NY non ha nulla da giocarsi potrebbe trovare spazio anche magari in uno stato di forma non ancora ottimale per iniziare a saggiare il campo ed arrivare all'anno prossimo con quel pizzico di esperienza in più...
