If there was no salary cap at all in the NBA, there would be some stacked teams happening, like Miami and New York (assuming no road block in signing Chris Paul) and Dallas, perhaps LA. Of course it's not a foregone conclusion these teams always win championships, but they would be hard to beat with prime players. What would you think if these superteams also competed in Euroleague? How much interest would you have in seeing them join?
Also do European teams have the same problems as the NBA? Is there a cap on how much a team can spend? Sorry for all the questions...I really miss watching basketball.

I'll be honest I'd be thrilled with the idea of seeing teams like Lakers,Dallas,Miami etc... playing the Euroleague, I mean, who wouldn't?
Nonetheless, I reckon that playing against these "superteams" wouldn't be fair at all for the rest of the teams involved in this competition, although I think there are few of them like Barcellona, Cska maybe even Real Madrid that could beat them in a pretty tight game, trying to take advantage of the only edge that they've got: the organization, the double-team and probably the size of the court, yes you heard me right, this is a big handicap for American teams that generally like to play in open spaces sometimes without even thinking to what they're doing, but this a very hypothetical conjecture; I still think that in a very long run like the Euroleague an American team would prevail on the others anyway.
It would be unfair because of the salary cap as well, there's not limit around here, like Fagiu countered you. In Europe if you earn 1M per annum it means that you're a really good player, in America 1M is the price that you pay for the masseur...
How can you compete against these teams? You simply can't, the gap is too wide and I'm not just talking about the talent of the players, which is of course peerless, but I'm talking about the money involved in the Nba, which is a massive business.
In other respects if we're talking about the visibility of a sport like basketball, which is occasionally followed, specially in Italy, compared to sport like soccer, I suppose it would be a benefit for the old country if a Nba team would join the Euroleague playing for the whole season among them.
The share of the people following basketball would rocket out of all proportion.
In Italy we've got a really funny story, we call it "the Bryant case" , I think you know what happened, if you don't I will explain it to you another time because I'm dwelling and waffling on this post.
Basically the sport papers and us(the people of the forum) have discussed more about basketball in 15days, when Bryant was expected to come to Italy than in the last 10 years combined, which should get you thinking.
I also agree with the manoeuvre of the european summit that allows to sign former nba player, for few months or more, if you can afford the expense you buy them if you don't you keep playing with your players, just to increase the audience of the game.
I hope I helped you to clarify some of your doubts.
Regards, Palerio.
