Andrea Bargnani's scoring abilities already are well- documented, but now that he is moving into the starting centre role, he will have to learn to defend rival big men in the post.
It's an art keeping a 275-pound opponent from getting to the spot he is trying to get to without being called for a foul and how quickly Bargnani masters it could determine how long he is on the floor on a nightly basis.
Coach Sam Mitchell certainly isn't leaving any question about what he expects from Bargnani.
"If he doesn't play defence, he's not going to play and if he comes in and commits two quick fouls he ain't going to play," Mitchell said.
Chris Bosh also had a little advice for Bargnani. Expect to be tested early and often.
"When you're still kind of a fresh face and you haven't proven yourself on the defensive end, they're going to test you," Bosh said. "You just have to be strong and send a message that you're not going to be taking it."
